My Whole Story (The Condensed Version)

I am a wife and SAHM to 5 daughters.  In February 2013, we all went on a family vacation only to come home with E-coli bacteria.  We were all fine except our second oldest daughter (9 at the time) who spent 6 weeks at Children's Mercy.  What was happening to her was, the bacteria was attacking most of her major organs.  Immediately her kidney's stopped functioning, followed by her brain (which landed her in the PICU for a couple days), then her lungs and heart.  Thankfully everything recovered except her kidney's.  After 6 long weeks in the hospital she came home...

The Collegiate Licensing Process (And I Do Mean Process)

Since I redesigned the HOLSTR and added the larger Velcro strap across the front, I knew I wanted college logos on there at some point but how to do that, I just didn't know.  Back in March I called the person in charge of licensing and trademarks at Kansas University to ask about acquiring the license.  He directed me to the CLC website and said filling out the application was required for everyone.  I got online and was bummed to find out that this wasn't a simple application.  I filled it out the best I could, uploaded my credit report, uploaded HOLSTRit's financial statement, uploaded my label hang tag,...

Why the change in 2013?  Well, my kiddo got sick.  Just a few days into her hospital stay my aunt suggested that I start a Caring Bridge page to keep people updated on how we were doing.  The only experience I had with Caring Bridge before that...

Summer Hydration Tips & Recipes

Summer is quickly approaching and soon we'll be vacationing, taking our kids to camp and complaining about the heat.  Today I'm going to share some easy hydration tips and recipes. The easiest way to tell you're becoming dehydrated...if you're thirsty...DRINK!  Anything but caffeine and alcohol will help hydrate but here are some great fruit infused water combos that are hydrating AND healthy! I generally don't plan 24 hours ahead for best infusion flavor but adding them and drinking right away works too.  If you're trying to cut back on soda and find yourself missing carbonation, you can add fruit to...

The To Don't List

#HOLSTRit #MOMpreneur #SmallBusinessKC #ToDoList #WAHM

I've always been a planner, I love structure and I LOVE lists even more.  Since I started working from home I read a lot of tips about being a more productive WAHM (work at home mom).  I'm figuring out that a list for how to live life and actually living life don't really work well together so I'm going to take some of these tips and add a little reality to them. 1.  Have a shower and get dressed. Well showering has been hard to accomplish since I had my first child almost 17 years ago.  It used to be that I...
